I've set up a custom domain, but my IconoSites domain is still appearing in Google. How do I fix this?

Once you’ve set up a custom domain, the best thing to do is to submit your new site address (i.e. www.yourdomain.com) to the search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo. When you do this, they will know that you prefer to display your custom domain and not your IconoSites URL. Keep in mind, it could take anywhere from 1-3 months for this change to take place in the search engine results. Here’s our Tutorial on How to Submit your Website to the Search Engines – http://www.iconosites.com/blog/2011/12/how-to-add-your-website-to-search-engines-iconosites-website-builder/

For faster results, you can set up your website in Google Webmaster and specify how you would like your URL’s to appear – https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/siteoverview?hl=en. If you choose to sign up for Google Webmaster, when it asks you for verification select “Alternate Methods” → “Add a meta tag to your sites home page”, and then copy the code they provide and paste it into the “Head” section in your Site Wide Scripts (located on your Header & Footer page). This will verify your account. Then, within their admin console, go to “Site Configuration” → “Settings”, and then set your Preferred Domain. This will also take some time before it is changed in the search engines, but it should be faster than the above method.
